Strange Birding Guide Recommendation
Posted on February 1st, 2009 No commentsThe absolutely most intriguing bird book I have read recently is this one. It is a non birding guide.
Dunne intends for this book to be a companion for your birding guides. The technique he uses is much the same as that used by early colonial explorers, except he does not shoot the birds he watches. He observes in the field, takes notes and then goes back to camp to write about the species’ habits and habitat, about its flight patterns, its calls, its appearance. He does this in such a way that I am nearly transported back into colonial times creating the image of the bird species in my mind. It is a remarkable affect.
In any case, I intend to re-read Pete Dunne’s Essential Field Guide Companion: A Comprehensive Resource for Identifying North American Birdsat least one more time before I go.
